Kim Schifano, M.A., CCC-SLPKim Schifano, M.A., CCC-SLP, owner of Carolina Speech Works, LLC, is an ASHA certified speech language pathologist, with over 21 years of clinical experience. Kim is dual licensed in NC and SC, and is certified in
SPEAK OUT!® Parkinson voice therapy program, VitalStim® therapy for swallowing, and Orofacial Myofunctional therapy. Kim attended Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences in 2001, graduating with honors and highest distinction. Kim obtained a Master of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in 2003. During her 21 years as an SLP, Kim has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, home health, assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing, long term care, memory care, a school setting, and in private practice. Kim has experience in treating a multitude of medically-based diagnoses, including traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson's disease, dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), encephalopathy, brain fog related to COVID long-hauler complications, and concussion. In regards to pediatrics, Kim specializes in articulation/phonological disorders and orofacial myofunctional therapy. She is highly skilled in providing cognitive-communication therapy, speech and language therapy, voice therapy, and dysphagia therapy to clients of all ages. Kim holds certifications and expertise in several specialty areas of speech language pathology. Kim has extensive clinical experience working with adult patients that have suffered a stroke or brain injury. Speech therapy related to adult neurological conditions is Kim's greatest passion and area of expertise. Kim specializes in the treatment of speech and voice disorders in patients living with Parkinson's Disease, and is certified in the Parkinson Voice Project SPEAK OUT®! voice therapy program. Kim also specializes in orofacial myofunctional therapy, a therapeutic technique targeting neuromuscular re-education of the oral and facial muscles to improve breathing, chewing, swallowing, and speech. She is a certified provider of the Simon Says Tongue Tips Orofacial Myofunctional therapy program and NeoHealth Orofacial Myology therapy program. Kim also has completed specialized training on accent modification, helping non-native English speakers or speakers with accents learn to speak with an American English accent. Kim is passionate about speech therapy, and devoted to helping each of her clients achieve their maximum potential. When Kim is not busy treating clients, she enjoys spending time with her family and watching her sons play sports. She also loves hiking, yoga, movies, audiobooks, hanging out with friends, and snuggling with her Australian Labradoodle, Max. |
